We are taught that science moves ever forward by good questions. Questions are said to be good when they are tested and verified by experimentation. The God of the Bible asked of the Jewish nation many years prior to modern scientific method to “test me in this”(Malachi 3:10); thus challenging His chosen people to experiment in His greatness and provision personally. Here, God was not trying to instill in Israel good practice, theory, or reasoning skills (although modern science was founded on these principles) but rather He was inviting them to a dialogue; a dialogue between an all-knowing ’omniscient’ God and the limited-knowledge of man. God was reminding Israel (and us today also) that they were limited in knowledge and that true answers were found in Himself, and the way to arrive at these answers was to ask Him questions. God loves good questions generated from willing hearts that are ready for truthful answers. God reveals Himself through our questioning. Remember, that the greatest among the Kingdom of God are little children. Could it be because they are not afraid of asking questions and therefore receiving answers. Questions in science may reveal the mind of God through His masterful creation but God wants us to question everything, going beyond molecular structures and mechanisms to question our very existence and most importantly, to question our relationship with Him.
Questions are powerful. In the beginning (Adam and Eve) questioned God’s Word when they ate the fruit of the forbidden tree. This disbelief built a chasm between God and man. If questioning God is a good then why did they (and thus us) receive the penalty of death? The answer is because their question came in the form of disbelief in God’s Word. Up to this point they had perfect fellowship with God. There was no reason to question God’s goodness, it was self-evident and available to them without question, but they questioned it anyway. Their question (disbelief) separated them (us) from God and now the only way back to God is through questioning. In other words, questioning God’s Word got us into this trouble to begin with and now asking God questions is the only way we will find answers to get us out of this mess. The point to ponder is, are we asking the right questions of God?
Selfish questioning or questions of disbelief will warrant no answer but selfless questions (like a child’s question) will elicit God’s Divine answer. The answer to humanity’s ultimate question came 2000 years ago in form of Jesus. Many have asked God questions and thus have accepted God’s answer in Jesus, unfortunately some have rejected God’s answer and for them their continual questions may fall on deaf ears because the answer has alreadybeen given.
Do you accept God’s answer for humanity?
All I would like to say is WOW!!!
It is so true ‘are we asking the right questions of God?’
