From time to time I will include quotes that have come from my readings. Here is one from one of the most prolific Christian authors of yesteryear.
Here we have one of the great truths of the Christian life. The only real argument for Christianity is a Christian experience. It may be that sometimes we have to argue with people until the intellectual barriers which they have erected are battered down and the citadel of their mind capitulates. It may be that we have to present Christianity to people in some cases in such a way that intellectual conviction follows upon the presentation. But in the great majority of cases the only persuasion that we can use is to say to people: “I know what Jesus is like, and I know what Jesus can do. All that I can ask you to do is to try Him yourself and to see what happens.”
William Barclay
Anyone reading this blog who has not tried Jesus I urge you to test Him. The Bible states, Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8) Now, here is a good scientific challenge.
#1 Ask the Question – God do I know you personally and have I submitted myself to you completely?
#2 Research – Search God’s book (the Bible) for answers (I recommend starting in the book of John or Romans).
#3 Hypothesis – Set forth a testable experiment that produces a logical answer (God has asked us to test Him, see verse above).
#4 Run the Experiment – Give your life to Jesus.
#5 Confirm your hypothesis or deny your hypothesis - I know from my experience that God will confirm Himself if you complete step #4 with all honesty.
#6 Publish your results – Tell everyone of your decision to follow Christ.
Most readers will recognize the steps above as the scientific method. God has asked us to test Him and to try Him because he is an experimental (meaning personal) God who loves everyone and wants to have daily communion with us. Why not give Jesus a try?
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (New King James Version)
21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
